General Info / FAQ
What are the stars made of? We use a top of the line translucent water based glow paint. Since it is water based, there is little to no odor. The stars are 3-D, so while they are not invisible, they are barely noticeable in normal light. Once you see them in the dark, you won’t care what they look like during the day anyway. Lasts for years under normal humidity. Can be easily painted over. What do I need to do prior to painting? All items taking up floor space need to be removed from room. This includes toys and chairs. Beds, dressers and bookshelves can stay. Dressers and shelves need to be flush against a wall whenever possible. This is necessary to safely reach all areas of the ceiling. Remove items from dresser tops and shelves. Items of value and breakables must be removed. You will also need to remove anything you may need during the painting. Can you do popcorn ceilings? Popcorn ceilings can be done and look fantastic. However, due to asbestos issues, we will need to know what year your home was built and if it has tested negative for asbestos. You can either have a professional come to your home and run the test, or home testing kits can be purchased online for about $20 + lab fee. This is something everyone with popcorn ceilings should invest in if their home was built prior to the mid 80s.

What does it cost?
We normally charge $4.00 a square foot. See coupon on home page for Current specials. Are there any other costs? Vaulted ceilings or ceilings over 10 feet high require special “lift” equipment. Are you available outside of the Austin? I am available in the South-Central Texas area. Mileage rates apply. Lodging expenses may apply. How long does it take? An average size room (12’ X 10’) with a basic theme usually takes 3-5 hours. Larger rooms and rooms with raised or popcorn ceilings require more time. The paint dries fairly quickly, so you have instant access to the room. Do I need to paint my ceiling black? No way. The paint reflects the color under it, so painting a ceiling black would 1- Be a huge downer to look at every day and 2- Only allow the paint to glow for a minute or two, if at all. The ceiling needs to be a very light color. White, eggshell and any other normal light color ceiling shades are perfect. Can I help or watch? Nope. |
